Can I get a foreign educational institution qualification, along with graduating from the Faculty of Management?

Master’s Degree graduates from the Faculty of Management, who have also completed the joint Master’s diplomas, get an additional Master’s Degree in Management from Universite Paris 12 Val De Marne, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, Leeds University Business School (Leeds, Great Britain) or European School of Management (ESCP-EAP, France, Paris). The Société Générale Vostok Bank (SGVB) offers student loans on very favourable terms for the Faculty undergraduates to enrol in the international Master’s Degree Programmes and to cover term-time living and maintenance costs while being abroad.

What positions can the Management Faculty Graduates get?

The Management Faculty graduates can work at middle and senior management levels, as advisors and consultants, analysts with their qualifications and specialisations: strategic planning and governance, HR management, logistics, marketing, project management. The majority of our graduates work for and with large Russian and foreign companies and enterprises, where they worked during their industrial placement. Among those companies and enterprises are RAO Unified Energy Systems of Russia, Gazprom, Lukoil, McKensey, AirFrance, Auchan, L'Oreal, Vneshtorgbank, Alfa-Bank, IBM Business Consulting, ROSNO, L'Etual, etc.

What admission tests do prospective students need to pass to enter the Management Faculty? Are the admission tests at the Economics Faculty more difficult?  

Management faculty prospective students should pass mathematics, foreign language, social science and Russian language tests. Perspective students who have a high school medal or a diploma with honours should pass the mathematics test and on receiving 9 or 10 are admitted to the first year studies. The foreign language test can be passed in any of the four languages: English, French, German or Spanish. The social science test includes economics tasks, which is accounted for the specialisation of the faculty. As far as the difficulty levels at the Management and Economics Faculties admittance tests are concerned, they are equal.

What will be the cost of my education at the Faculty of Management and is there any kind of discount scheme?

There is no fee for studying at the Management Faculty. Those who haven’t passed their admission tests successfully to get to the government grants or bursaries supported places, have an option of studying at the Faculty on a fee agreement base. In 2007/2008 academic year the fee is 280000 roubles at the Management Faculty and 240000 roubles at the Logistics Department.  There is a scheme of discounts, which depends on the academic results of each individual student. The freshmen get discounts based on the admissions results. The discounts vary from 30%  to 100%.

The prospective students taking admission tests to payment requiring places and not getting only 1 score to get to the government grants and bursaries supported places, get a 90% discount for the first year, and those lacking 2-4 scores –  80%-60% discount.

How many places where there in 2006 supported by government grants and bursaries?

In 2007 there were 130 prospective students admitted to the government grants and bursaries supported places at the Bachelor’s Degree Programmes.

What was the pass mark for 2007 admissions?

In 2007 the pass mark to the government grants and bursaries supported places at both the Management Faculty and the Logistics Speciality was 28 out of max 35 (the Russian language test was calculated on a 5-mark scale).

Is there a deferment of military service at the Management Faculty?

The HSE is among those 35 Universities left that keep the Military Training Department. The Faculty graduates will not be called up for military service.

What is the location of the Management Faculty courses, lectures and classes?  

All the courses (except PT and military training) are held in the premises at 33 Kirpichnaya Str. It is a recently refurbished and renovated 8-storey building offering great classrooms, computing facilities and a library. All the classrooms provide free-of-charge Internet access. There is a nice and value-for-money cafeteria in the premises. There is Izmailovsky Park nearby which provides ecologically good and healthy environment for our students to study, along with a short 7-10-minute walk to/from the nearest Metro station Semenovskaya.

How is the educational process organised at the Faculty of Management?  

In their first, second and third years, students have a unified curriculum. By the end of the third year every undergraduate should choose a specialization. During the fourth year the undergraduates attend specialization courses, have industrial placement, and those who graduate with a Bachelor’s Degree, write and present a dissertation. After graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree some of the graduates are provided with help in job placement. The majority of graduates apply either for the Specialist’s or the Master’s Degree.

What’s “rating” and what’s its importance?

 Rating is calculated from the total sum of the marks a student gets at their courses, multiplied by the credits for the courses (these credits show the labour-intensiveness of these courses). Your rating is a matter for many administrative issues, like awarding with government academic scholarships, personalized scholarships, specialization admittance, foreign internship, and the Master’s Degree Programme admittance.

What foreign languages can I study at the Faculty?

While being in their first-third years the required subject for undergraduates is English. There are almost twice as many English hours in the curriculum than it is required according to the professional education standards. Almost 30% of undergraduates have an opportunity to study another foreign language for free. There is a requiring payment option to study a second and third foreign language for any undergraduate.

How does the HSE help with job placement of its graduates? Where do the Management Faculty graduates work at?

The HSE does not assign to a job after graduation, but we try and do as much as possible to help our graduates with job placement. The Faculty organizes and holds presentations of big companies where undergraduates can get diversified information about the company, take an interview and even receive an invitation for an internship. Employers are interested in professionals that have a contemporary high quality managerial education, and there is no difficulty in getting a job for our graduates. It happens quite often that the administration of a company offers a position to a graduate who has shown him-/herself to their advantage during industrial placement. Our graduates succeed in many big Russian and foreign enterprises. About 90% of the graduates work at positions, which require the acquired professional skills and knowledge from them. The majority of our graduates work for and with big Russian and foreign companies and enterprises, where they had their industrial placement. Among those companies and enterprises are RAO Unified Energy Systems of Russia, Sberbank, Troika-Dialog, Lukoil, Gazprom, Auchan, Procter&Gamble, McKensey, Alfa-Bank, Wimm-Bill-Dann, ROSNO, AirFrance, L'Oreal, Vneshtorgbank, IBM Business Consulting, L'Etual, etc. The Faculty of Management has and retains close business relationships with the above mentioned and many other respected members of the business community.
